Privacy Policy

Atom Translate  •  Last updated: July 18, 2026

This Privacy Policy ("Policy") explains how ValentineOS ("we", "us", "our", or the "Developer") collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the Atom Translate application ("the App") on Android and iOS. By downloading, accessing, or using the App, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Policy. If you do not agree with it, please do not use the App.

Atom Translate is offline-first. The App works without an account, storing your data locally on your device. Cloud features (account, synchronization, and the community) and automatic translation are optional and apply only if you choose to enable them.

1. Data Controller

The data controller responsible for your personal data is:

ValentineOS (independent developer)
Ukraine
Contact email: [email protected]

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information you provide

  • Account information (only if you sign up): your email address and password, or a Google account identifier if you sign in with Google (OAuth).
  • Profile information: your display name and an optional profile picture (avatar) you upload.
  • Learning content you create: folders, sections, words (original and translation), mastery levels, review dates, and optional illustration images you add from your device gallery.
  • Community content: folders or sections you choose to publish publicly, together with the categories, difficulty levels, and tags you assign.
  • Text and voice input: text you enter for translation, and audio you dictate when using the speech-to-text feature.

2.2 Information collected automatically

  • Learning activity and progress: study sessions, streaks, daily-goal progress, activity-calendar data, and per-folder statistics.
  • Community activity: decks you download or clone, and download/clone counts for decks you publish.
  • Technical data strictly necessary to operate authentication and cloud sync (for example, device and session identifiers).

2.3 Information we do not collect

  • We do not sell or rent your personal data.
  • We do not display third-party advertising and do not use advertising trackers.
  • We do not collect precise geolocation, your contacts, or health data.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide core functionality: storing your vocabulary and running the study modes (flashcards, quiz, writing, matching).
  • To synchronize your data (folders, sections, words, progress, and word images) across your devices.
  • To authenticate you and secure your account.
  • To operate the community: publishing your public decks, showing your author profile, and enabling others to download or clone your shared content.
  • To translate text and convert speech to and from text when you use those features.
  • To respond to support requests and to maintain and improve the App.

4. Translation, Speech, and Third-Party Processing

Important. When you use automatic translation, the text you enter is transmitted to an external translation service for processing. When you use text-to-speech or speech-to-text, the audio or text is processed by your device's operating-system services. Please do not enter passwords, financial details, or other sensitive personal information into the translation feature.

4.1 Translation providers

Atom Translate lets you choose a translation provider in Settings. Depending on your selection, text is processed as follows:

ProviderHow your text is processed
Public third-party API (currently the default) The App currently uses the MyMemory translation API, operated by Translated S.r.l. (Italy). The text you translate is sent to their servers and processed under their own terms and privacy practices, over which we have no control. This provider is used during the App's current phase and may be replaced by self-hosted engines in future versions.
Self-hosted engines (where available) Translation runs on servers operated privately by the Developer. Text is used only to return a translation and is not used for advertising or profiling.
Manual mode No text is sent to any translation service; you type the translation yourself.

You control which provider is active and can switch to manual mode at any time to avoid sending text to any external translation service.

4.2 Speech and audio

Speech-to-text and text-to-speech rely on the speech services built into your device's operating system (for example, Apple, Google, or Microsoft). This processing is governed by your device provider's privacy policy. We do not store your voice recordings on our servers.

5. Third-Party Services We Rely On

To operate the App, we use the following third-party providers, each acting under its own privacy policy:

ProviderPurpose
SupabaseAuthentication, database, and file storage (avatars and word images). See Supabase Privacy Policy.
Google (Sign-in / OAuth)Optional account sign-in. See Google Privacy Policy.
Translated S.r.l. (MyMemory)Automatic translation, as described in Section 4.
Apple / Google / MicrosoftApp distribution and operating-system speech services on their respective platforms.

These providers are independent third parties. We are not responsible for their data-handling practices, and your use of their services is subject to their respective terms and policies.

6. Cloud Storage and Offline Use

If you create an account, your account and synchronized data are stored using Supabase on secure cloud infrastructure. If you do not sign in, your data remains only in a local database on your device and is not transmitted to us.

7. Community Content and Public Sharing

  • Decks are private by default. Content becomes visible to other users only when you switch a folder or section to Public.
  • When you publish a deck, other users can view, download, and clone it, and can see your author profile (display name and avatar) and a shareable deck ID.
  • You are solely responsible for any content you publish. You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights to that content and that it does not infringe any third party's intellectual-property, privacy, or other rights, and does not contain unlawful material.
  • Do not publish personal, confidential, or third-party copyrighted material in public decks.
  • When you download another user's deck, you receive a read-only copy; your personal learning progress on that deck is tracked separately and privately for your account.
  • We may remove public content that we reasonably believe violates these terms, applicable law, or the rights of others. To report infringing content, contact us at the email above.

8. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We share information only in these limited cases:

  • Service providers listed in Section 5, acting on our behalf or under their own terms.
  • Other users, but only for content and profile details you choose to make public.
  • Legal requirements, where disclosure is required by law or is necessary to protect rights, safety, or security.

We do not sell your personal information (including as "sale" or "sharing" is defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act).

9. Data Retention

We retain account and synchronized data for as long as your account remains active. Locally stored data remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the App. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize the associated personal data within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law. Public decks previously downloaded or cloned by other users may persist as their independent copies.

10. Your Rights and Choices

  • Access and portability: you can export all your words to a CSV file at any time within the App.
  • Correction: you can edit your profile, words, and decks directly in the App.
  • Deletion: you can delete individual words, sections, folders, and decks, and you can request deletion of your account and associated data by emailing [email protected].
  • Offline use: you may use the App entirely offline, without an account.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under the GDPR (EU/EEA/UK), Ukraine's Law "On Personal Data Protection", or the CCPA/CPRA (California) — including rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. To exercise any right, contact us at the email above; we will respond within the period required by applicable law.

Where the GDPR applies, our legal bases for processing are: performance of our contract with you (providing the App), your consent (for optional features such as automatic translation and community publishing), compliance with legal obligations, and our legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving the service. You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting prior processing.

11. International Data Transfers

Because we use cloud infrastructure, your information may be processed in countries other than your own, including outside the EEA and Ukraine. Where required by law, such transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards (for example, standard contractual clauses).

12. Security

Data transmitted between the App and our servers is protected using standard encryption (TLS/HTTPS), and we apply reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

13. Children's Privacy

Atom Translate is intended for users aged 13 and older, in part because it includes user-generated content shared through the community. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

14. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

The App is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, ValentineOS disclaims all warranties, express or implied, and shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the App or of any third-party service integrated with it, including translation, authentication, storage, or operating-system speech services. We are not responsible for the accuracy of machine-generated translations or for content created or shared by other users. Nothing in this Policy limits any rights you have under mandatory consumer-protection or data-protection laws.

15. Governing Law

This Policy is governed by the laws of Ukraine, without prejudice to any mandatory data-protection or consumer-protection rights available to you under the laws of your country of residence.

16. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you within the App. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
